‘Sports has the power to bring people of all backgrounds together.’ This statement was spoken and agreed by two inspirational woman who met for the first time in London.
Special Olympics International Chief Inspiration Officer Loretta Claiborne and Her Excellency First Lady of Rwanda Mrs. Jeannette Kagame met to discuss how Special Olympics and the government of Rwanda can further develop their collaboration following the signing of a July 2016 memorandum of understanding between the Government of Rwanda and Special Olympics Rwanda. It is hoped that this partnership will serve as an example to nations not only in Africa but around the world.
The office of the First Lady, via the Imbuto Foundation, spearheads early child development programmes across Rwanda and touches the lives of the young people throughout the nation. That program is similar to a Special Olympics program called Young Athletes.
It is important to commit to early child development, said Special Olympics Europe Eurasia Regional President and Managing Director David Evangelista.
“Special Olympics is ready to support the Rwandan government in any way we can to further empower the ongoing programme for full inclusion in Rwanda,” Evangelista said.
